Matt Avery is serving as the Lead Academic Success Coach at GEC’s 1201 Campus. Matt is in his 15th year serving in education, having worked in various environments from universities to scholarship providers, and now at the Goodwill Excel Center. A native of DC, Matt earned a BSBA in Marketing from Old Dominion University in 2004 and a M.S. in School Counseling from the University of the District of Columbia in 2014. His goal has always been to help people overcome obstacles in their educational journey, because he recognizes the power of education has to change the life of students and their families.

Currently serving at the Goodwill Excel Center DC, Matt is passionate about helping students decide the direction of their future endeavors. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, helping with his church, coaching rec center basketball, and playing golf. Matt is a sports enthusiast and is always cheering for the Commanders, Nationals, Wizards, and Capitals. As a DC native, Matt feels privileged to have dedicated his career to improving educational opportunities for DC residents, believing that he is on a mission to help others achieve their full potential through education.
