Student Board Member Malick Curry

Mr. Malick Curry is a proud Washingtonian. He enrolled at GEC in September 2024. Malick describes himself as a humble observer and a leader. In 2014, due to a family emergency, Malick and his family were forced to move from DC to Georgia, and he attended some high school in Georgia where he was placed into the ninth grade, which was a change from his current grade level when attending school in DC. Malick soon moved back to DC, and he attempted to enroll back in high school but due to a number of challenges he was not able to re-enroll. During this time of being out of school, Malick earned his Special Police Officer (SPO) license and was working as an SPO at many different locations in the DMV. He continues to work as a SPO currently while also enrolled at GEC and is working on an assignment at a Safeway in the District.

Malick came to GEC with the goal of obtaining his high school diploma and with the next goal of enrolling in college and earning a degree in Business Management so that he can run his own businesses. Malick has a passion for cars and clothing. Malick is a January 2026 graduate and will be enlisting in the Navy and beginning training in May 2026. Malick plans to pursue his postsecondary education journey while in the Navy.

Malick is a natural leader and is a Student Ambassador. He loves how fast paced GEC is and how the learning environment meets every student’s needs. He applauds the teachers for really understanding what students need and truly helping all students with their classwork to meet the goals of each class. Upon enrolling at GEC, Malick shifted his work schedule so he could come to school during the week and then work double shifts on the weekends. Malick is excited about the opportunity to serve as a GEC Student Board Member and loves to learn and experience new things and feels this unique opportunity to be a board member is just that!
