Kim R. Ford is the Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital, responsible for leading the organization in its mission to build youth of courage, confidence, and character. She oversees the strategic direction and operations of the Council, which serves over 45,000 youth Girl Scouts and 31,000 adult volunteers and lifetime members across the District of Columbia and 25 counties in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Kim’s extensive career includes pivotal leadership roles, such as President and CEO of Martha’s Table, where she successfully raised $17 million annually to advance the organization’s mission and led the nonprofit through the challenges of COVID-19. Before this, she served as Acting Assistant Secretary in the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education, overseeing $2 billion in workforce development programs. As a Dean of the University of the District of Columbia Community College, she managed programs related to career and technical education. In President Obama’s administration, Kim played a crucial role in implementing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, distributing over $350 billion for economic growth.
Kim’s journey with Girl Scouts started when she was a Brownie and followed her through a multitude of experiences as a leader in development, education, and community service. She learned from strong female role models, like her mother, who always encouraged her to pursue her dreams and make a difference in the world. Growing up in D.C., Kim was able to watch her mother up close as she served in leadership and community-oriented positions that still have an impact today.
